Rediscover
Dinosaurs
WhereasDinosaurs were around a long, long time before we were born,Whereas
and -- despite the fact they are extinct --
they've refused to go away for the past 245 million years or so,Kids and grownups just can't seem to get dinos out of their heads and paleontologists have even more trouble getting dino bones out of the ground,WhereasDinosaurs have had lots of books written about them,Therefore
had zillions of pictures painted of them,
have starred in lots of kewl movies (usually without getting paid for it),
have stood around in dusty museums for years at a stretch without time off for lunch,
and, all in all, have entertained and educated each and every one of us
regardless of age, race, creed, color, gender, size, national or planetary origin, or anything else you can think of,It's time that everyone stopped what they were doing and took a moment to pay attention to
dinosaurs and paleontologists and dino-artists and dino-educators
( who not only dig them up, but also figure out everything we know about them and communicate it to the rest of us ).
Therefore,
does hereby declare
October 1-31, 1999
as the
The
Third, Annual International Dinosaur Month
to be devoted to the study
of dinosaurs and paleontologists
and dino-artists and dino-educators
wherever we may find them
to protect and preserve
their fossils,
to encourage kindness
to them all,
and to appreciate their
contributions to human knowledge
and to our understanding
of our humble place in the vastness of time and the universe.
