The first important and most infamous dinosaur auction.
      The Sue Saga Continues

The exhibit hall was very crowded for days with people holding serious stakes in the purchase of the fossils and with curiousity seekers.

It was very suspenseful to be at that exhibit because no one knew who would buy the fossils. Everyone hoped that "Sue" would end up in a public place where she can be studied and displayed properly. The other possibility was that a private individual would  buy her and keep her hidden in a personal collection for years to come. It would have been  a great tragedy to have excavated her from solid rock only to have her buried somewhere again.

On Saturday afternoon, Oct 4, 1997 everyone knew the answer.

The dimly lit gallery was lined with glass showcases containing smaller fossil fragments.
