Around 1958, the first Beany and Cecil cartoons were released by United Artists theatrically in Canada, Australia and other foreign countries.
The first Beany and Cecil TV shows were in January 1962 on a program that was originally called Matty's Funnies. The Mattel Toy Company got Bob Clampett to do cartoons for them and began to call the show Matty's Funnies with Beany and Cecil. They were so popular that the show title was shortened to Beany and Cecil only three months later. On January 5, 1963, the show moved to ABC Saturday mornings and stayed on the air until 1967.
As you can see from these two model sheets, the original Lost World "influenced" characters were changed just a little bit for the TV show.

One of the episodes even stars a "Dinosaur." It's called Cecil Meets A Singing Dinasor and includes some great puns that are almost as good as the lulu's that we come up with here at D.I.G. In fact, these cartoons contain tons of silly puns and jokes. It's one of the things that makes them good as far as we're concerned.

In late 2000. an absolutely awesome DVD called Bob Clampett's Beany and Cecil - The Special Edition was issued by Image Entertainment. It has a huge selection of original Time for Beany television shows, animated Beany and Cecil programs and hours and hours of kewl supplementary material including some excerpts from The Lost World explaining the influence it had on the show. It even has movies that Bob Clampett made before he became a Warner Brothers animator! Stan Freberg tells stories about making the puppet show that had us rolling on the floor. Bob Clampett passed away a few years ago, but he would have loved this DVD, and you will, too.
