While
there isn't too much Opera in The Phantom of The Opera, it is one
of the most famous and enduring stories having an opera setting. There
have been more than half a dozen different films made based upon the book
since 1925, and the musical version is one of the longest running
in history. Some people argue that the Webber version is an opera
in an old-fashioned sense.
Through our association with Amazon.Com in the United States, England, and Germany and another with Blackstar Video in the UK, we're pleased to offer the following list of Phantom of the Opera Items for your convenience.

The Phantom of the Opera, 1925 - Universal
- Lon Chaney, Sr.
There are actually two and
possibly three different versions of this film. The first was a road show
release, the second (and possibly third) was a cut down, slightly re-edited
version that went into popular release. It's well known that the ending
of the film (with the Phantom producing a bomb) was re-shot and added after
disastrous screenings of the original version. The original contained three
2-Strip Technicolor sequences all but one of which (the Phantom's entrance
as the Red Death on the stairway of the Opera Hosue) has been lost, although
Kevin Brownlow recently reproduced the appearance of the other two sequences
for a restoration. The original film was tinted throughout. We don't know
what the original musical score for the film consisted of, but most of
the versions offered below have organ or orchestral scores of greater or
lesser quality. If you have any specific information on the different versions
please let us know as we haven't been able to verify the exact musical
scores that they contain.
